FAQ

Common questions.

Do I need to upgrade my fuse board?
If yours is a plastic-cased or older wired-fuse board without RCD protection, an upgrade is strongly recommended for safety and insurance.
How long is the power off?
Usually 4–6 hours during the installation itself. We plan around your household.
How much does a new consumer unit cost in Surrey?
Most domestic consumer unit replacements in Surrey and South West London fall between £650 and £1,100 fitted, tested and certified. Larger boards, split supplies and rented properties needing remedials can sit above that.
Is surge protection worth it?
Yes on most modern homes. An SPD protects EV chargers, boilers, TVs and computers from supply spikes and adds around £120–£180 to the installation.
Will you need to do remedial work first?
Sometimes. A new board with RCBOs can reveal pre-existing faults such as borrowed neutrals or damaged insulation. We test before quoting so any remedials are priced up front, not sprung on you mid-job.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. An Electrical Installation Certificate is issued on the day and the work is notified to Building Control under our NAPIT registration.
